Types of Rows at a Glance

Beginner Row: These rows focus on the basics: boat safety, oar handling, cox commands and basic form/technique. Start here to develop good fundamentals and a passion for rowing.
Recreation Row: For new rowers, the focus is on the basics: commands, timing, form/techniques, and safety. More experienced rowers typically concentrate on maintaining their skills.
This row is suitable for any rower, new or seasoned, who wants to get on the water.
Skills and Drills Row: These rows focus on specific techniques such as timing, feathering, hands away, and drive-to-recovery ratio. We recommend you first complete at least two Recreation Rows before signing up, but first-time rowers are welcome as well.
Exercise Row: These rows focus on technique/form, stamina, and improved fitness. An Exercise Row is ideal if you want to build your skills while getting great exercise. Rowers are expected to have participated in numerous Recreational Rows; have a good command of their oars; and be physically capable. If you're not sure, check with your cox.
Power Row: Looking for an intense work-out? This row focuses on timing and the form/techniques that optimize strength and power...a good hard row. Rowers are expected to have participated in numerous Exercise Rows; have good command of their oars; and be to keep in time while rowing at a high and powerful stroke rate. **Ask your cox if you're ready.**
